  • New Guinea Impatiens. To 24". Large flowered Impatiens introduced to Horticulture as recently as the 1970s, and now a major bedding annual. The currently popular genetics represent fairly involved hybrids of I. Hawkeri, I. Aurantiaca and others. Sun tolerant, though best in semi-shade, the plants, foliage and flowers are highly variable but in general are larger and more robust than I. Wallerana types. Double flowered forms, as well as interspecific crosses with yellow flowers, have recently been introduced. Many have highly colored foliage. Perennial in tropical climates.
