Colossus

Pansy 'Colossus Neon Violet'

  • The Pansy is an involved hybrid of Viola tricolor, V. lutea, V. cornuta, V. Altaica and others which has been a garden standby since horticultural antiquity. The large, flattened flowers in an endless range of colors and patterns are borne over tufted to sprawling clumps of foliage to about 12", and prefer cool, moist, sunny conditions to do their best. Most are short-lived perennials in moderate climates, best with cooler Summers, and some may persist for several years even in Zone 5 when well-grown. F1 hybrids, which first emerged in the 1960's, have revolutionized production of these plants which have become a major Fall, Winter and early Sping crop for greenhouse growers and home gardeners worldwide. Flower size, winter hardiness, heat and shade tolerance vary by series.
