Mentha x piperita
- Peppermint. A stable hybrid between Spearmint (M. spicata) and Water Mint (M. aquatica) that occurs occasionally in the wild, hence the various fragrance forms. Most selections are generally believed to be sterile. Mints are, in general, rampant perennials growing 12" - 24" tall and spreading rapidly by stolons. Plant where they won't overrun other more valuable plants; any gravelly or poor soil seems to suit them fine, in sun to fairly dense shade, where they will not be as robust.
