Bloomingdale
Ranunculus 'Bloomingdale Special Mix'
- Turban Ranunculus or Asian buttercup. To about 24". Showy cool-season annual or maritime perennial forming a claw-like tuberous root system. Flowers are semi-double to double and occur in nearly every shade and blend except true blue and true black. The best forms display layer upon layer of papery petals on flowers from 2 - 4" in diameter. An important commercial cut flower crop and an increasingly popular cool season bedding item, and is grown both from seed and from tubers. Plants started from commercially packaged tubers need to be brought into growth quickly under indoor or greenhouse conditions, and planted outdoors after hardening off where they will quickly bloom and then collapse under advancing heat. Makes an excellent garden display when well-grown, and in all but the most favorable climates it should be disposed of after flowering. Does not tolerate shade.
